Zoey: the incredible inflating beagle!

So we had a little scare this Wednesday after we took Zoey into get a couple of vaccinations. These were her last round of vaccinations as a puppy so we were pretty certain she wouldn't show any sort of reaction as she has had quite a few shots over the last few months... Well, around 8:30 (she had had the shots around 6:00) Alisa noticed that Zoey's nose looked a little red and we both noticed that her face stayed wrinkly after chewing on one of her toys. With a little closer examination we realized that her entire face had swollen and that her collar was getting tight. In addition, her entire body was red especially her stomache.

We, of course, called Dad and he suggested we give her half a tablet of benadryl and watch her for breathing difficulties. We were releived to have some guidance!

With no signs of apparent breathing difficulties we went to bed. Thankfully she was de-swollen by the morning, but she did throw up twice. I brought her into the Vet's office and they gave her an injection of the same drug in Benadryl and something to stop her from throwing up... Probably not really needed, but it was a little bit of peace of mind.

Anyway, here are a couple of pictures of swollen Zoey:

Just for comparison here is a cute picture of the non-swollen Zoey.

She is back to normal today and even went on her first jog with me (though she has gone on a jog with Alisa). Wow, she is a trooper, 2 whole miles with just a small break in between!

Just so people know that my life isn't just dotting over Zoey, here is a picture from a recent fishing trip that I went on with a couple of grad student friends, Deepak, and A.J. and A.J.'s dad. We were sturgeon fishing and caught a couple of "small" ones. I guess they can get pretty darn big, but we didn't see any of the 6 footers. In actuality, A.J.'s dad caught both of the sturgeon we caught that day, but he let Deepak and I reel them in. Boy are those some ugly fish.

Hey Justin! I am glad that Zoey is okay. The same thing happened to Nate a couple of weeks ago when he was jogging. He looked exactly the same with a swollen face and his tummy was red. I didn't think of taking a picture. It was scary too, but he's okay. Our doctor gave us the same advice and then said "hasn't he learned jogging isn't good for him?" :)

I am emailing you about something else in case the kids read these comments before Christmas.

Mom, if you read this please check my blog. The latest post was for you to fulfill my assignment.

Poor Zoey! She looks so woebegone! So happy she is all recovered!
